A Question For Suze Orman

The Bank of the Philippine Islands brought Suze Orman in the country last night for a talk about money. Hasmin got us tickets for the Suze Orman’s talk at the New. It was a fun and entertaining watch, and me not knowing who Suze Orman is, found her interesting and inspiring, that I got in line for those who want to ask in the forum. I did not get the chance to ask.

I just want, “What happened to her dream of opening a restaurant?”

Suze introduced herself as someone who knows everyone’s story, that she came from rags herself, that she became a waitress for almost a decade, 7 years, if i remember it tight, that on her 7th year, she decided to start he own restaurant. She asked her mom for &20,000 but her mom told that they do not have that much. A frequent customer lent her some checks amounting to $50,000. She invested that 50 grand and nothing was heard of that money. To keep her promise of paying her friend back, she applied a position in the same investment company where she lost her fund for her restaurant, and that is the start of her career as a financial adviser.

And so what happened to her dream restaurant? Or to her dream, period.

Suze told us that the goal of money is to keep us feel secured by following her three rules. First is by living below your means and within your needs. Next is the need and want rule, where cutting the want to save. And finally, enjoying saving just like spending.

And so what happened to her dream restaurant, has it become a want, that she cut off to make her feel safe by becoming an author, a TV/Radio personality and of course a financial guru where she is getting all her money now?

Is a dream a need or a want?

That Awkward Moment When

this is the sequence of the facebook posts

crying dad

A man came home from work late, tired and irritated, to find his 5-year old son waiting for him at the door.

SON: ‘Daddy, may I ask you a question?’

DAD: ‘Yeah sure, what it is?’ replied the man.

SON: ‘Daddy, how much do you make an hour?’

DAD: ‘That’s none of your business. Why do you ask such a thing?’ the man said angrily.

SON: ‘I just want to know. Please tell me, how much do you make an hour?’

DAD: ‘If you must know, I make $50 an hour.’

SON: ‘Oh,’ the little boy replied, with his head down.

SON: ‘Daddy, may I please borrow $25?’

The father was furious, ‘If the only reason you asked that is so you can borrow some money to buy a silly toy or some other nonsense, then you march yourself straight to your room and go to bed. Think about why you are being so selfish. I don’t work hard everyday for such childish frivolities.’

The little boy quietly went to his room and shut the door.

The man sat down and started to get even angrier about the little boy’s questions. How dare he ask such questions only to get some money?

After about an hour or so, the man had calmed down, and started to think:

Maybe there was something he really needed to buy with that $25.00 and he really didn’t ask for money very often The man went to the door of the little boy’s room and opened the door.

‘Are you asleep, son?’ He asked.

‘No daddy, I’m awake,’ replied the boy.

‘I’ve been thinking, maybe I was too hard on you earlier’ said the man. ‘It’s been a long day and I took out my aggravation on you. Here’s the $25 you asked for.’

The little boy sat straight up, smiling. ‘Oh, thank you daddy!’ he yelled. Then, reaching under his pillow he pulled out some crumpled up bills.

The man saw that the boy already had money, started to get angry again.

The little boy slowly counted out his money, and then looked up at his father.

‘Why do you want more money if you already have some?’ the father grumbled.

‘Because I didn’t have enough, but now I do,’ the little boy replied.

‘Daddy, I have $50 now. Can I buy an hour of your time? Please come home early tomorrow. I would like to have dinner with you.’

The father was crushed. He put his arms around his little son, and he begged for his forgiveness.
It’s just a short reminder to all of you working so hard in life. We should not let time slip through our fingers without having spent some time with those who really matter to us, those close to our hearts.

Do remember to share that worth of your time with someone you love. If we die tomorrow, the company that we are working for could easily replace us in a matter of hours… But the family & friends we leave behind will feel the loss for the rest of their lives.

Urbandud in Review 2012

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2012 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

About 55,000 tourists visit Liechtenstein every year. This blog was viewed about 610,000 times in 2012. If it were Liechtenstein, it would take about 11 years for that many people to see it. Your blog had more visits than a small country in Europe!

UFO: Shhh, Shoes and Shorts

Pointed blue shoes

I didn’t realize that i’ve collected several shorts from my previous visits from the Ukay-ukay.

Abercrombie and Fitch Walk Shorts.
For more tatay look sa park habang may tulak tulak na stroller or habang may hila-hilang bag para maghatid ng preschool.

Cotton On Shorts.
Para sa kaswal-kaswal na lakad with friends, yung hindi pang opisina, or kunwari, opisina din.

Lantatak, pero best naman ito.
Boxer shorts na pambahay na a-achieve-in ko rin gamitin panlabas ng bahay one of these days. arte pa sa 25 pesos?

The Last Weekend

Thursday to Friday. Locked-in kami sa Maxims Tower – Resorts World Manila, ang isang 6 star hotel daw,  para sa pagbuo ng mga concepts.

Melo and I matapos ang gabi sa casino.

view from our room. ang swimming pool na glass ang side, kaya kita ang matataba from the gilid

Hehehe.

Yahoo OMG Awards 2012 @ the Arena

Adrian, Alfreid, Bukne, Ojen, Mikoy, Marjorie and Lilian

Iyun. Pagod lang din. Kaya naman buong linggo. tulog yata ako. Share lang. Or kailangan lang ma-post ko ang mga pictures, so there.
